The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has taken significant steps in the investigation of Chief Fatai Jubril’s murder. Chief Jubril, the Baale of Lotu community in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, was tragically shot to death on July 15, 2023, during a land dispute1.
Inspector Dikko Usman, a member of the Nigeria Police Force, has been indicted by the DPP for his involvement in the murder.
The DPP’s advisory, addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command Headquarters, details the charges against Inspector Usman.
The officer has already been dismissed from the force and is now facing court proceedings1.
Alongside Inspector Usman, Omotola Adeboyejo and Wasiu Agbaraojo will also face prosecution.
The charges include conspiracy to commit murder and murder itself1.
Chief Jubril was shot in the presence of his wife, Ejiro Jubril, and teenage daughter.
Eyewitnesses reported that about 50 hoodlums, including two Mobile Police officers, were involved in the incident.
Despite conflicting accounts, the ballistic report linked Jubril’s death to shots fired from Inspector Usman’s rifle1.
Ejiro Jubril, the widow, recounted the horrifying incident. She pleaded for her husband’s life but was assaulted by the attackers.
The deceased’s elder brother, Moshood, confirmed that Chief Jubril was killed right in front of his family1.
The medical cause of death certificate and other eyewitness accounts supported the conclusion that Chief Jubril died from gunshot injuries.
The ballistic report attributed the fatal shots to Inspector Usman’s rifle1.
