The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dealt a significant blow to criminal activities in the oil industry by destroying 13 illegal refining sites and ten overhead tanks in the Niger Delta region. The successful operation was carried out by the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe.
The NAF intensified its patrols in the Niger Delta, leading to the discovery of these illegal sites. Taking advantage of the difficult terrain, criminals had been operating these refineries clandestinely. However, the NAF crew deployed weapons on board their aircraft, resulting in the destruction of all 13 sites. Additionally, several overhead tanks connected to reservoirs were obliterated during the operation.
On the same day, during an extended patrol downstream, the NAF crew spotted a 6-tyre tipper truck along the riverbank. Four canoes were seen loading illegal products into the truck. Swift action followed: the truck and canoes were attacked and destroyed.
Continuing their patrol, the NAF crew monitored the Trans Niger Pipeline from Rumuekpe-Nkpoku to Bonny. Fortunately, no unusual activity was observed along the pipeline.
The NAF’s commitment to curbing illegal refining activities remains unwavering. This operation underscores their dedication to maintaining security and safeguarding Nigeria’s valuable resources.
